Item-by-item splitting
How to Split a Restaurant Bill by Item.
When everyone ordered different things, dividing the grand total by the number of people is easy but not always fair. Item-by-item splitting starts with the receipt itself: who had each dish, who shared it, and what does each person actually owe?
See it in recEAT
From one messy bill to everyone’s actual share.
Add the receipt items, tap who had each dish, and recEAT turns it into a clean per-person breakdown you can share.
Try a split →1. Copy the receipt line by line
Start with the food and drinks instead of the grand total. Keeping each line separate makes it possible to give different people different totals.
2. Assign solo items to one person
If only one person ordered the item, put the full item price under that person. There is no reason to spread it across the table.
Aki ordered a ₱320 pasta and nobody shared it. Aki’s share of that item is ₱320.
3. Split shared items among the people who had them
For appetizers, pizza, desserts, bottles, and other shared orders, divide that item among the people who actually shared it — not automatically among everyone at the table.
A ₱480 appetizer shared by three people contributes ₱160 to each of those three people.
4. Add each person’s shares
Once every line has an owner or a group of sharers, add the shares for each person. That becomes the food-and-drink subtotal before any shared charge.
5. Add service charge consistently
A group can agree to split a shared charge equally or use another method. recEAT currently supports equal service-charge splitting, so the method stays visible and consistent across the group.
